Masters Thesis

Gale's Update: Below is my Masters Thesis with a very few minor spelling and word changes. In reading it now, with a number of years of additional experience, I have only two comments:

1. The process of developing and confirming a hypothesis were not thought out in advance. They naturally developed with time, so this was written in retrospect.

2. The statement in the second hypothesis, “The thought that the soul might be capable of being raised to a higher level and/or a higher connection (as demonstrated by Jesus, Buddha, and others)…” does not imply that Jesus, Buddha or others raised their soul or changed to being more connected. Instead this indicated to me that a higher level is possible. That possibility started me on the search for how to do it.

Discovery and Investigation of the Soul Vibration

Thesis for a Master of Transformational Studies Degree

Gale Gray, March 2004

Introduction

The Soul Vibration provides clues to the connection between the soul and God. Moreover, it provides a way to measure this connection. Once it is possible to measure something, it is possible to measure change. This can lead to increasing the connection and thus empower our soul - a step in becoming the Christ, the Buddha, and possibly even more.

Discovery of the Soul Vibration

In November 1977, my wife Kay and I attended an Alpha Class taught by Dr. June d'Estelle. During this class we learned meditation techniques and concepts that have been the basis of our spiritual journey. The class started on Friday night, and continued all day Saturday and Sunday. Shortly after the class started, I found that I could feel energy. The energy that I felt was so intense that I was often very hot and broke out in a sweat although all I was doing was just sitting. Between meditations, the room did not feel too warm to me. Clearly something was going on. Just before the beginning of the class on Sunday I experienced a palatable energy that I decided was the presence of God.

I was very frustrated and at the same time intrigued by this initial experience. I was frustrated because during the entire two and one-half day experience, I had seen and heard almost nothing during meditation. On the other hand, I was intrigued because we did remote healing cases at the end of the class to sharpen our new skills. What intrigued me was that I was actually quite successful at doing these cases. The remote healing cases and some of the other aspects of the Alpha class came from José Silva's work, Silva Mind Control. Dr. d'Estelle studied with José Silva and had permission to use his work in developing her classes. During the Alpha class, we were introduced to our spiritual guides. One was male and one was female. My female guide was a black woman named Ann. I am not sure how I knew this because I could not see anything in meditation, but somehow I knew. My male guide was a light. When I asked Dr. d'Estelle about my male guide being a light, she told me that that this was a sign that I needed to raise my awareness to a higher level. To increase my awareness, I continued to meet with members of the class one day a week to do remote healing cases. My continuing success doing remote healing cases convinced me that it was possible to perceive and connect with other people at a distance. It is common to hear that “we are all one.” However, it becomes a reality when you can consciously connect with others that you do not know. As I note later in this thesis, doing remote healing cases has been valuable in understanding the results of the investigation of the Soul Vibration.

In addition to taking Dr. d'Estelle's next class, Theta, I also repeated the Alpha class several times. At one of the Alpha classes, I realized that I could feel an energy pulse in the area of my heart when I focused on Ann, my guide. I next realized that I could feel similar pulses when I meditated on other people or spiritual beings. I could also feel these pulses when I focused on myself. The order of these pulses was different for different beings, and was different in different “directions”. When combined, I decided that this constituted a vibration that was like a radio beacon through time and space. This pattern was unique enough that it could be used to differentiate between beings. I started calling this the “Soul Vibration” and wondered if it would reveal clues to the nature of the soul.

A System for Recording and Measuring the Soul Vibration

I felt the pulses when I was in a meditative space. More specifically, I felt them in the area of my heart when I exhaled my breath. I tried projecting my awareness straight out in front of me. When I did this, I could feel a series of pulses. If I counted, I would feel a pulse or nothing at each number. If I projected my awareness in a different direction, I had the same feeling, but the pulses were at different numbers. At first I became aware of 7 different “directions”, but now I feel that there are at least 21 and very possibly more. These directions reminded me of the coordinates used in mathematics, and the numbers reminded me of nodes (a term used in mathematics). I only felt energy pulses at nodes and not between them. I called the forward direction the “X axis”, the direction to the right, the “Y axis”, and the upward direction the “Z axis”. Although there were more directions, and the nodes seemed to stretch to infinity, I found that I could usually identify a soul vibration using only the first 3 directions (X, Y, Z) and the first 20 nodes. For example, my vibration was X - 10, 12; Y - 10, 12; and Z - 12. For a visual representation of my soul vibration, see Figure 1. Using this system, I began to meditate on different people, in much the same way that I did remote healing cases and recorded the soul vibrations that I found.

Hypothesis I: The series of pulses that I feel is related to the soul, and in turn to the soul's connection to God.

Methods: Using meditation and comparison of my results with others. Testing to see if the characteristics of these pulses matched the characteristics of the soul.

Discussion: Although I intuitively felt that I perceived a vibration related to the soul, I was curious as to what others would find. While almost no one else seemed to feel the pulses the way that I did, this was not unexpected. There are at least five inner (or psychic) senses that correspond to the outer senses. My experience with the healing cases from the Alpha class indicated that even when people have the same psychic sense, how they “see” or experience the same condition varies from person to person. I believe that this is one of the values of doing the cases, to explore and thereby calibrate one's inner sense or senses. I looked for other people that could verify what I was experiencing through their psychic senses. Most of my success was with a clairvoyant who could see the higher being or soul that I perceived and verify the result. For example, I would sense a presence and by checking the vibration would identify who it was. The clairvoyant would “look” to see if it was the same being. We worked together and I found that the results were consistent and very repeatable. Since we are so visually oriented in the physical, the tendency is to consider that being clairvoyant (inner sight) is the best of the psychic senses. This was what I thought when I started trying to develop my inner sense. However, I found that having the ability to feel energy and specifically energy pluses was a better gift for me. For example, sometimes I could identify a being faster than the clairvoyant and my perception seemed less influenced by other information. However, as I had found with doing the remote healing cases, working with others is extremely valuable.

One of the first things that I did when I started feeling the Soul Vibration was to focus on spiritual beings that I knew. I found that they often had a symmetrical vibration. For example, the Archangel Michael has a vibration that is 5, 10, 15, 20 ... in all three directions. Similarly, Mary the Mother of Jesus has a vibration that is 3, 6, 9, 12 ... in all three directions. Jesus was the most interesting of all. His vibration was complete. That is, everywhere that there could be a pulse in the first three dimensions, there is one. In a different way, Buddha also was unique. He had a vibration at 4, 8, 12 … in all three directions. I seldom got past that first pulse because it was so strong. It is as if I was looking at a wall in a dark room and then was suddenly looking through a window at the sun. This lead me to consider that if the Soul Vibration was related to the connection to God, then perhaps it provided a path to God.

In meditation, it is possible to go forward and backward in time. However, going forward is different because the future may not remain the same, apparently this is because we have free will. So part of the future seems to be fixed and part of it seems to change with the decisions that are made. It also seems difficult for me to determine time when going forward, perhaps for the same reason. That is, some things seem to be predestined, but the timing may depend on people's choices. When I choose some Soul Vibrations and projected backward in time, I found that they usually had not changed. If a vibration had changed, I found that it was a very small change, such as adding a pulse or two.

Native people in different parts of the world often have a belief that taking a photograph of a person captures their soul. Clairvoyants confirm that an essence is captured in a photo and this can allow the clairvoyant to see the person's aura. It is interesting that the clairvoyant seems to be seeing the person's aura as it is now, not when the picture was taken. So somehow the image allows a clairvoyant to be in touch with the person rather than the image actually capturing the aura. In a similar way, I found that when looking at a photograph I could feel the Soul Vibration of the person. While this is interesting, I have not explored it further. Again, this result is not surprising given the experience that I have had doing remote healing cases.

At a lecture that I attended, it was stated that over the years the bones in the body pick up a person presence and that this can be felt in the bones that are left after the body has decayed. When I heard this, I realized that it helped explain an experience that I had about a year earlier. While I was visiting the ruins of an abbey in Wales, I had a very strange feeling as I walked into the graveyard. Suddenly I knew that my body was buried there and I could point out its location. When I focused on what I felt was the grave in meditation, I could feel my Soul Vibration. A psychic person was with me and confirmed that they perceived that my body in a previous life was buried there.

Here are some of the characteristics that I associate with the soul. It is independent of a person's sex, color, or race. It remains essentially unchanged from one existence to another. It is close to God and is somehow related to God. In meditation and through experience, I found that these were all true for the pulses that I feel. In addition, I did not find any characteristics of the pulses that contradicted my concept of the soul.

One concept that I would like to discuss further is that of an infinite connection with God. Don't we all have that at the soul connection? I think that the answer is yes, and yet the Soul Vibration indicates that some souls have more connections than others. Perhaps what this means can be illustrated by the mathematical concept of the sums different infinite series. For example, the sum of one infinite series is expressed as 5 + 10 + 15 ... (where “...” indicates that the series continues to infinity). Another series is 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 ... . Now the sum of these two is the same - infinity. However, the second series approaches infinity faster than the first. This can be demonstrated by examining a given interval, say from 1 to 20. In this interval, the sum of the first series is 50 while the sum of the second is 210. Thus the second series approaches infinity faster. The Soul Vibration appears to be an infinite series. So perhaps there is a parallel in that all Soul Vibrations are infinite, but some approach infinity faster.

Measuring this energy seems to be one of the keys to understanding more about the Soul Vibration. One problem is, do I feel a higher level of energy because that is a property of the vibration or do I feel a higher level because my awareness varies with time? While the latter cannot be totally ruled out, the relative energy seems to be consistent when I compare particular vibrations. That is, when I meditate on Buddha's Soul vibration, I always feel a much greater level of energy. When I meditate on Jesus' Soul Vibration, I also feel a higher level of energy and while not as high, the same high level at all nodes. I also found that I could project my awareness beyond Jesus to a much greater energy. In fact, my perception of this energy will increase until I can no longer take it. I concluded that I was getting in touch with God. My sense of these relative energies is shown graphically in Figure 2.

The results that the Soul Vibration varied in the number of connections, relative energy, and that it could lead to God match my conception of the soul.

Conclusion I: The series of pulses that I feel has the same characteristics as the soul and in turn reflects the soul's connection to God. It is appropriate to call it the Soul Vibration.

Hypothesis II: My Soul Vibration could be changed.

Methods: Meditation and paying attention to spiritual information. Removing myself from my work and home environment by traveling with my family. Spending time in nature.

Discussion: The concepts that the Soul vibration could be changed and that this change might increase the number of connections matched not just my conception of the soul, but it also gave me hope. The thought that the soul might be capable of being raised to a higher level and/or a higher connection (as demonstrated by Jesus, Buddha, and others) started me on a specific path.

I am often asked what the pattern of an individual's Soul Vibration means. I believe that the thought behind this is that there may be some clue in the pattern that might tell us what we came to do, or is somehow related to our basic nature. I started to investigate this but my direction changed when I noticed that there seemed to be something desirable about having a symmetrical Soul Vibration. That is, the acknowledged masters and higher beings had the same pattern of pulses in different directions. Perhaps this was a key to changing my soul vibration.

My vibration (X - 10, 12; Y - 10, 12; and Z - 12) was the same in the X and Y directions, and only missing a pulse at Z-10 to be symmetrical in three directions. So this became my focus, to somehow add a pulse at this node. I meditated and concentrated on feeling energy come through this point. And somehow it happened. I had concluded that my vibration had essentially remained unchanged since my soul was created. So this was an exciting change! But was it a lasting change? Each day when I checked, the pulse was still there. About this time (1982), our family took a three-month trip around the United States and Canada. We traveled in a car pulling a tent trailer for camping. The entire time I was surrounded by my family, in tune with the time of daylight, and more in touch with nature. I was also able to spend more time in meditation. By focusing my meditation on higher beings, I was able to “add” a few more pulses to my vibration. During this time I also found that I did not lose any of the new pulses.

Conclusion II: My Soul Vibration could be changed and remained changed.

Hypothesis III: My Soul Vibration could be changed to the Christ Vibration.

Methods: Meditation and attending a meditation retreat.

Discussion: The highest or at least most connected Soul Vibration that I had found, in the first five directions, was Jesus vibration (see figure 2). I called this the Christ Vibration and as I found that I could add more pulses, achieving this completeness became my goal. One day, it occurred to me that I could just go ahead in time and check my vibration to see if this was possible. So I did, and found that I would have the Christ Vibration sometime in the future! I was really excited at this result, and redoubled my efforts to add pulses to my vibration.

About this time, I attended one of Dr. d'Estelle's Leadership classes on Vancouver Island. During one of the meditations, my vibration was suddenly changed to the Christ Vibration. I found this very disorienting and went outside to lie on the grass in the sun to ground myself. I continued to feel this way the rest of the day and continued to lie on the grass between meditations. I was really aware that the change had taken place.

With the change to the Christ Vibration, I was hopeful that I would be able to perform miracles and walk on water. However, I found that there was no noticeable difference except when I checked my Soul Vibration. Hoping for more confirmation, I asked the clairvoyant if there was a difference in my aura. This person sees a single star in an aura when a person is aware of their higher connection. The clairvoyant saw a second star in my aura due to the change to the Christ Vibration.

Often our lives are greatly affected by what seems like a small event at the time. I consider that this change is exactly that. It seems like a small imperceptible change. However an imperceptible change can be like a very small hole in a dam - with time it can become life changing.

Conclusion III: My Soul Vibration was changed to the Christ Vibration.

Caveat

When working with personal perception and that which is outside of the physical, it is difficult to know all of the possibilities and to be certain of the results. Furthermore, I find that any time that I am working at the edge of my knowledge, there is a greater chance that I will misinterpret something. Over the years, I have found that the information that I receive in meditation is correct. However, sometimes my interpretation of it is not. This thesis represents where I am now in my understanding and should not be considered as absolute. As an old gospel tune says “We will understand it better by and by.”

It is important to note that I usually check only the first three “directions” when working with the Soul Vibration. While this is suitable for most purposes, it is a very limited view. Also the vibration that I feel is only one aspect of the soul and there may be many others.

There is a story that illustrates the difference between scientists and engineers. Two men, a scientist and an engineer, were talking at a party. The scientist noted that a process could get you closer to an answer but sometimes never there. When the engineer asked for an example, the scientist pointed out a beautiful woman across the room and said, “For example, if each time you moved 1/2 of the way toward that woman and then stopped, and then moved 1/2 of the remaining way, and stopped, you would never reach her no matter how many times you went 1/2 of the distance.” “I agree,” Said the engineer, “but I would get close enough for practical purposes.” I consider that my work with the Soul Vibration is similar. I have not learned enough to answer some of the questions that come up, but I have learned enough to change my vibration. My focus now is not on my Soul Vibration as much as it is on expanding and utilizing the fullness of this connection with GOD. This is very important because, it is my expectation that if I can fully connect with GOD, everything else will fall into place.

Although this method has worked for me and matches my Christian beliefs, it should not be considered as proof that it is the only way.

Summary

Through taking Alpha, I was introduced to methods and concepts that have been the basis of my spiritual journey for 26 years. During meditation, I can feel a series of energy pulses that I call the Soul Vibration. Using a system of counting and feeling the pulses in different directions, I can measure and record the vibration. This vibration reflects characteristics of the soul and in turn the soul's connection to God. It is appropriate to call it the Soul Vibration. Higher beings seem to have a symmetrical vibration with Jesus having a complete vibration in the initial five directions. My Soul Vibration was changed to the completeness of the Christ Vibration. Meditation and meditation retreats have been my principle tools for this work. My experience agrees closely with my view of the teachings of Jesus and has given me a way to increase my soul's connection with God. I believe that increasing the connection with God is the most important step that I can take in my life.
