Be Cautious after Deep Meditation

Caution: After reaching levels deeper than Alpha, we can be more sensitive to what is happening around us. So after meditation, care needs to be taken to avoid conflicts, negative information, or emotionally charged situations in real life or via the media. For example, if we encounter a negative situation where our reaction would usually be disappointment, instead it can head into depression. This sensitivity exists for hours and even up to the end of the day. This is long enough that we can forget that we were at deeper levels and thus forget about being cautious. Often if we become upset (depressed, angry, etc.) it is only later that we realize that our reaction is out of proportion and that was because of meditation.

Caution: Be sure that you are really back in your conscious mind after deep levels. This can be more difficult than it appears because it is possible to only partly return to our normal state of awareness. The “rubber band technique” can assist. Just place a rubber band on your wrist and after coming out of meditation, snap it a few times. A snap helps bring us into more awareness. If you do bump into something that causes sharp pain after meditation, this can be your body saying, wake up! If this happens, be sure to try the rubber band technique, as it can be much less painful.

These side effects are not a reason to avoid deep levels, but they are worth keeping in mind.
