A Method to Reach Theta

Start by going to the Alpha level. Once you are there, take a deep breath and go deeper. (Hold the intention to go deeper, and relax as you take a breath in, hold it, and then let it out slowly.)

You can then go deeper by counting down as if you are going down steps. Start at 10 and count down. (Note that some people visualize going up steps, and counting from 1 up to 10. Use the way that works for you in Alpha).

Counting down or taking a deep breath can be repeated to go deeper and to become more relaxed.

Once you reach the Theta level, you will become aware of an inner feeling. Usually this is one of Joy or Peace. It may start out as very subtle, but grow as you become aware of it and focus on it. This is your clue that you are in Theta.

Since this inner feeling comes from our center, A Technique for Moving Awareness can be used in meditation to help move your awareness to your center. Once there, your inner sensation (Joy, Peace, etc.) can become much stronger.

If you find that you are back in Alpha, perhaps because you are no longer aware of this inner feeling or you are aware that thoughts have intruded, try counting down again.

To end the meditation, move into Alpha and then just come out of Alpha. (Remember to end with gratitude before opening your eyes.)
